OpenAI enhances ChatGPT with Bing web search and image generation features (DALL-E)

OpenAI has introduced new features for its ChatGPT chatbot, enabling users to search the web using Bing and generate images. This update includes the general availability of the Bing integration, which had previously been in beta, and the addition of image generation capability powered by DALL-E 3.

ChatGPT, powered by OpenAI's latest GPT-4 model, traditionally relied on its training dataset for responses, limiting access to post-training data. The Bing integration overcomes this limitation by allowing ChatGPT to search the web for relevant information using Bing and citing the sources in its responses.

The Bing integration initially launched in May but was temporarily disabled due to concerns about accessing paywalled content. It has now been reactivated and made generally available. ChatGPT also has integrations with third-party applications, providing access to various types of data.

Another new feature allows users to generate images by providing natural language prompts to ChatGPT, powered by DALL-E 3. This version of DALL-E generates higher-quality images and can better interpret user requests, making it more capable of understanding complex drawing instructions.

DALL-E 3's improved parsing capability involves an AI model that analyzes user descriptions to create prompts that DALL-E 3 can understand easily. This enables the generation of multiple image versions to better meet user requirements.

These new features come as ChatGPT's adoption is on the rise, contributing to OpenAI's growing revenue. The company's annualized revenue run-rate increased by 30% since August, reaching $1.3 billion, primarily driven by ChatGPT subscriptions. OpenAI offers both ChatGPT Plus for consumers and ChatGPT Enterprise for users of large organizations, with the latter including cybersecurity controls.

Reliable and authentic sources were used as part of the collective research to gather the information.
